Fire Door Product Testing

By undertaking door and partition surveys our engineers can assess the fire resistance of existing construction and avoid unnecessary demolition or replacement. In existing buildings this means heritage can be blended with the fire strategy and unconventional door sets or partition systems can be assessed as having a similar rating as new, or fire engineering can be used to justify a lower rating.

A significant contribution to construction cost savings is expected to be using alternative partition and cladding systems. Trenton Fire are working with, and have worked with in the past, various manufacturing bodies looking at successfully undertaking the range of fire tests required for classification as either fire resistant or for surface spread of flame. This works particularly well with our knowledge of product and fire door assessment coupled with our fire engineering expertise. We have worked with all the UK test houses and know the different individuals involved.

There are many pitfalls when it comes to assessing these products for use in the UK marketplace, particularly when brought in from overseas. With our research and testing background we can provide expert advice on its application to avoid any costly mistakes.

One of the solutions put forward to achieve savings on new buildings is through a much wider use of off site construction. Trenton Fire fully understand this concept and have worked with various clients looking at standardising door and stair widths to reduce the cost of purchasing doors through bulk discounts, and reducing the time on site of the various trades. By reducing the door widths to only three standard sizes the time taken on site can be significantly reduced.

Similarly, standardising stair widths means they can be precast off site using the same formwork and the same fixings can be used on site.
